Our Favourite Eats in the Grampians

What you need after a great day on the track is a fabulous feed. This isn’t simply a list of restaurants and cafes. It is a list of the places that we have particularly enjoyed. Our favourite eats in the Grampians! We hope that you enjoy then too!

Here’s a selection of some of our favourite eats in the Grampians area.

Spirit of Punjab, Halls Gap

A fabulous Indian restaurant in Halls Gap. Some of our favourites include Chicken Tikka, Chicken Makhani (Butter Chicken), Gosht Saag Wala (chicken cooked in spinach sauce) and Mango Lassi. If you are looking for a large meat hit, try the Tandoori Mix Platter. Vegetarians and vegans are also well catered for.

They are open 7 nights a week for takeaway and indoor and outdoor dining. If it’s a warm night, opt for outdoors as there are great views over a wetlands area and you might just see kangaroos hopping by.

Kookaburra Restaurant, Halls Gap

Pub style dining, lounge and bar right in the heart of Halls Gap. The Kookaburra offers fabulous food, great local wines and a relaxed atmosphere. Our favourite dish is the baked duckling (pictured below). Open 6 days a week (closed Mondays), bookings essential.

Ararat Noodle Bar

Excellent value for money. Freshly cooked noodles and rice dishes and a friendly atmosphere. Our favourites include the BBQ plum pork and Nasi Goreng.

Livefast Cafe, Halls Gap

A great place for brekky, brunch or lunch. Livefast offers indoor and outdoor dining focusing on excellent coffee, and delicious food made with local ingredients wherever possible. They have a young and energetic team made up of artists, musicians, climbers and travelling creative types that love the beauty and nature of the Grampians. From time to time they have live music.

Khoon Thai, Ararat

Another one of our favourite eats in the Grampians is Khoon Thai in Ararat. They offer delicious Asian and Thai meals. We’ve particularly enjoyed the chicken satay, sweet and sour seafood and chilli fried rice. They are open for lunch Tuesday to Friday and dinner Tuesday to Sunday.

Izzy’s Cafe, Dunkeld

Izzy’s Café is a delightful, welcoming, dine-in and take away cafe in the centre of town. They offer a range of food including salads, pizzas, burgers, fish ‘n chips, home made pies, sausage rolls, cakes and biscuits as well as Timboon icecream. They make a fabulous toasted bacon and egg roll and their hot chips are great.
